🎼 Umbria Jazz Festival — Perugia When: July 12–21, 2025

Why Go: One of Europe’s most important jazz festivals, set in the hilltop city of Perugia. Big-name international acts and intimate side gigs fill piazzas and medieval streets with sound. By Train: Take a train to Perugia from Florence or Rome (via Terontola). From the station, ride the MiniMetro or walk to the historic center.

When: July 19–August 24, 2025

Why Go: Open-air opera by the lake where Puccini composed his works. A magical setting for classic Italian opera lovers.

By Train: Take the train to Viareggio, then a short taxi or local bus to Torre del Lago (15 mins).


🍷 Bravio delle Botti — Montepulciano, Tuscany

When: August 24–31, 2025 (Race on August 31)

Why Go: A week of food, processions, and flag-throwing culminating in a barrel-rolling race through Montepulciano’s streets.

By Train: Train to Chiusi-Chianciano Terme, then local bus or taxi to Montepulciano (approx. 25 mins).

🎃 Palio di Siena — Siena, Tuscany

When: August 16, 2025

Why Go: Italy’s most famous historic horse race. Expect colourful contrade parades, festive dinners, and medieval drama in the Piazza del Campo.

By Train: Direct train to Siena from Florence or Chiusi.

🍽️ Sagra della Porchetta — Costano, Umbria

When: Late August (TBC for 2025)

Why Go: This small-town food festival celebrates Umbria's famous spit-roasted pork with music, dancing, and plenty of porchetta sandwiches.

By Train: Train to Bastia Umbra, then a 10-minute taxi or bus to Costano.


🌺 Bonus: Cortona on the Move — Cortona, Tuscany

When: July 11–October 3, 2025 (Photo exhibitions through summer)

Why Go: An international photography festival with exhibitions spread across this stunning Etruscan hill town.

By Train: Train to Camucia-Cortona, then a short bus or taxi to the town centre
